Whether to allow credit is at the discretion of store owners, but some people take this for granted and may even become enraged when denied.
This was the case in a shocking incident where a grocery store owner was brutally attacked with a wooden stick after refusing to extend credit for an alcohol purchase.
The violent incident, caught on CCTV, shows the assailant mercilessly beating the store owner.
The attack occurred yesterday evening (6 Jul) at 8:23 PM. CCTV footage reveals a chubby man wearing a full-face helmet entering the store and launching a sudden assault on the owner.
Even after the owner fell to the ground, the assailant continued to strike him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the victim, identified as Wang Wen Gui (transliteration), is in his 60s.
His nephew, Wang Zi Tong (transliteration), explained that the attacker had previously tried to buy alcohol on credit but was denied, leading to the violent reaction.
The victim suffered severe injuries, including a fractured hand and a head wound. He was initially treated at Kulim Hospital and later transferred to Penang Hospital. Fortunately, his condition is now stable, and he is conscious and able to speak.
The brutality of the attack has sparked widespread outrage on X, with many netizens condemning it as attempted murder rather than a simple robbery. A photo showing bloodstains on the store floor has further fueled public anger.
Zi Tong, who also serves as vice-chairman of the Kedah South Security Self-Help Association revealed that the police had apprehended the attacker.
According to him, the assailant arrived with an accomplice on a motorcycle. After the assault, the attacker escaped on the motorcycle driven by the accomplice.
Police are investigating the motive behind the attack, whether it was solely due to the credit denial or if other factors were involved. As of now, the authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the case.
