A woman in China has drawn widespread sympathy online after revealing that her husband divorced her when she developed a medical condition that caused hair loss and visible changes to her appearance.
The woman said the marriage ended after her husband refused to support her treatment or accompany her to medical appointments.
Their story has since sparked intense discussion about marriage, appearance, and loyalty.
Handled household while battling illness
The woman, in her mid thirties, shared that she had spent years taking care of their child and managing household responsibilities. This included cooking, cleaning, and daily family duties.
However, after developing a skin condition that caused pigment loss and bald patches on her scalp, she noticed a sharp change in her husband’s attitude.
As reported by SCMP, she said he began treating her with disdain rather than concern.
Feeling emotionally overwhelmed, she reached out to media outlets after experiencing persistent sadness and emotional distress caused by her husband’s behaviour.
Diagnosed with chronic condition
Two years ago, a section of her hair suddenly turned grey before progressing into visible hair loss. Doctors later diagnosed her with a chronic skin condition that affects skin and hair pigmentation.
Medical professionals explained that emotional stress and anxiety can worsen the condition. They added that maintaining a stable mood is an important part of treatment.
The woman said her appearance changed rapidly following the diagnosis. She also shared that children in public sometimes mocked her looks, which further affected her confidence.
Husband refused to pay for treatment, avoided contact
According to the woman, her husband never accompanied her to the hospital and did not ask about her medical progress. She claimed he did not want to bear the cost of treatment.
She also said he stopped bringing her to family gatherings or social events, explaining that he did not want to lose face by being seen with her.
After sixteen years of marriage, the couple eventually divorced. Custody of their child was granted to the woman. The husband has not publicly responded to her allegations.
Will move forward with treatment
Despite the painful experience, the woman stated that she intends to let go of the past and approach her treatment with a positive mindset.
Medical experts echoed that emotional wellbeing plays a key role in managing the condition and slowing its progression.
