A 31-year-old man who was carrying out his duties while perched on top of a 60 metre-tall telecommunications tower suddenly collapsed before passing away.
According to NST, the incident took place near Jalan Jelai–Pasir Besar, Gemas in Negeri Sembilan yesterday (Apr 14).

In a statement by Tampin district police chief Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman, he said officers at the inquiry office of the Gemas Police Station were contacted by a member of the public regarding the incident.

“The caller claimed that a maintenance worker of a telecommunication tower had lost consciousness while at the top of the tower.
“Based on the information, police and fire department personnel rushed to the scene and found a man at a height of about 60 metres on the tower,” he said as reported by Berita Harian.
While personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department tried to save the man’s life by administering respiratory aid and getting him down from the telco towere at 9.20pm, he was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Jelai Health Clinic.

Told colleague of physical discomfort
Prior to his death, the man was carrying out maintenance work along with another colleague. He then scaled to the top of the telco tower alone while his colleague remained behind, investigations showed.
However, he later told his colleague that he felt exhausted and numbness in his hands, adding that he was too weak to climb down the telco tower.
Amiruddien said the man’s body was sent to the Forensic Department of Tampin Hospital for a post-mortem.
The case is currently being probed as a Sudden Death Report (SDR).
