A man in Johor Bahru has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after he was caught on CCTV pulling off a brazen seafood theft — stealing a live lobster from a restaurant in less than a minute.
In a 31-second surveillance clip shared by Eco Spring Thai Restaurant on Facebook, the suspect is seen calmly entering the restaurant’s premises in the early morning.
Places the lobster in a bucket
He heads straight to the fish tank, scoops out a red lobster using a net, places it into a bucket filled with water, and makes a quick exit.
The entire process was executed with surprising speed and preparation, leading many to believe the act may have been premeditated. The restaurant revealed that the red lobster taken was the only one in the tank.
According to the restaurant, the suspect appeared to be a well-prepared individual, acting with confidence and familiarity, raising suspicions that this wasn’t his first seafood heist.
Lodged police report
Eco Spring Thai Restaurant has since lodged a police report and hopes the public can help identify the thief.
We hope to catch this ‘lobster thief’ soon to prevent other businesses from becoming his next target,” they wrote.
The restaurant also reminded the public: “If you spot any suspicious individuals or have any leads, please report them to the police or inform us immediately. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe.”
