A mamak restaurant in Jitra, Kedah, has sparked online debate after a viral TikTok video showed its staff allegedly giving special treatment to female customers, while male customers were left out, quite literally, in the rain.
According to the video posted by user @mirotts, a male staff member is seen waiting outside the restaurant with an umbrella, ready to escort arriving female customers from their car into the restaurant.
Gender-based service?
As soon as a group of women arrived, he quickly stepped forward, opened the umbrella, and walked them into the premises in full gentleman mode.
While many viewers found the act amusing or sweet, the TikTok user pointed out that the gender-based service doesn’t stop at the entrance—it may also extend to price differences in food.

The thing is, for us girls, they gave us a lot of sauce. But the guys only got a tiny bit—and they were charged more,” she claimed.
“We ordered the exact same thing. I (a girl) had rice, chicken, vegetables, and a cup of teh tarik for RM8.50. But the guy didn’t even order a drink—just rice and chicken—and was charged RM10.50.” She further explained。
The incident reportedly took place at a local mamak restaurant in Jitra, Kedah.
Netizens’ reaction
The video quickly drew reactions from netizens, especially men, who joked about the so-called “princess treatment” and expressed playful jealousy over the unequal service.
“For women, it’s all careful and gentle. For men? Up to fate.”

“Now this is what you call real princess treatment 😌”

“Weyh I swear the mamak workers are so sweet 😌, the other day they even pulled out a chair for me to sit 😭”
