KUALA LUMPUR – Representatives of 21 Malaysian Student Associations in China have formed a task force to call for the exemption of the cross-border ban, restricting international students from entering China due to the pandemic. After reaching out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and the relevant authorities, the taskforce is humbled and grateful to receive support from the government.
To best comprehend the impact of Covid-19 on students and accelerate return-to-campus (RTC) initiatives, the taskforce’s representative Lim Ji Yi, has urged all Malaysian students studying in China to fill in the survey form promptly.
This survey will help communicate the current situation and key concerns faced by students to the relevant parties. All information gathered will be kept private and confidential and will only be used for return-to-campus-related purposes. It will also only be accessed by the taskforce personnel and the Malaysian government. The survey link is as follows: https://www.wenjuan.com/s/JJNBVr0/?share_device=weixin
Students are also required to register their details at the “Sistem Maklumat Pelajar Luar Negara” (SMPLN) developed by the Ministry of Higher Education (https://dohe.mohe.gov.my/smpln/) to ease coordination for future initiatives.
Should you have any enquiries on the survey form or other issues, you may contact the task force at survey.malaysian2021@gmail.com.
To date, the task force has initiated a dialogue with the Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and has communicated the issues faced by students stranded outside of China. The summary of the dialogue is as follows:
- The Minister of Transport has addressed the issues to the Foreign Minister, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who promised to highlight it to his Chinese counterpart.
- Dato’ Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will contact Health Minister, Dr. Adham Baba and Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin to further discuss matters related to student vaccination.
- Dato’ Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will pay a courtesy call to His Excellency Ouyang Yujing, China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, to discuss these issues.
Dato’ Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong assured that he would communicate all key concerns to the relevant parties to reach a solution soon. It has continued to obstruct the firetruck all the way to a busy junction, with cars coming from all directions.
