A Malay police officer has been hailed as a hero after he went out of his way to rescue a puppy which had fallen into a drain last Saturday (Apr 8).
NST reported that the heartwarming incident took place near a supermarket in Bukit Beruntung, Hulu Selangor.
Malay police officer rescues puppy from drain
The English daily reported that according to a statement posted by the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters on Facebook, two officers named Sergeant Padrick and Lance Corporal Rodhi were making their rounds at 6.20pm.
They were then notified by the public that a puppy had fallen into a drain and quickly rushed to the scene and saved the animal.
After rescuing the puppy, they gave it some food as it looked rather frail and famished.
In the post, Hulu Selangor police urged the public to not hold any preconceived notions towards the police concerning their behavior.
Sometimes Malaysians are ‘traumatised’ when they see policemen by the roadside. They think that there’s a roadblock and that summonses are being issued. They also think policemen are unfriendly and arrogant.
“But if we come across (the same incident), we would still stop by and help, don’t you agree?”
Netizens praise officer
On social media, netizens had nothing but praise for the Malay officer who saved the puppy despite common knowledge that it was ‘haram’ for him to have contact with dogs.
