Malacca will become the first state in Malaysia to observe a 3-day public holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, starting in 2025.
The announcement follows the release of the 2025 public holiday calendar on the Cabinet’s official website.

The Hari Raya holidays in Malacca are as follows (dates subject to moon sighting):
- March 31 (Monday): First day of Hari Raya
- April 1 (Tuesday): Second day of Hari Raya
- April 2 (Wednesday): Third day of Hari Raya
With this arrangement, employees in Malacca can enjoy a 5-day break, including the weekend on March 29 and 30.

Replaces Awal Ramadan public holiday
According to Sin Chew Daily, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced this proposal in 2024, seeking Cabinet approval to make the third day of Hari Raya a public holiday.

The proposal has now been approved and will take effect from 2025.
However, this new holiday does not add an extra day to the state’s public holidays.
Instead, it replaces the Awal Ramadan public holiday. The change aims to allow residents to enjoy a longer Hari Raya break fully.
As a result, Awal Ramadan (March 2, 2025, subject to moon sighting) will only be a public holiday in Kedah and Johor.
