A domestic worker in Singapore reportedly plunged to her death while she was cleaning the windows of her employer’s home.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident took place at Toa Payoh Lorong 7 Block 9 at 8am last Thursday (Sept 25).
Maid allegedly falls to her death while cleaning windows
A 75-year-old cleaner and eyewitness named Xiong (transliteration) told the Chinese daily that he was sweeping the floor at the adjacent block when he suddenly heard a loud bang.
“I went over to check and saw a woman lying on the ground. I tried calling out to her, but she gave no response,” he said.

Another resident said her family was about to leave for work when they heard the loud noise. When they opened the door, they were shocked to see the maid lying in a pool of blood and quickly shut the door before calling the police.
Police later arrived at the scene and pitched a tent where the maid’s body was found.
The maid’s employer, Ms Yap, said cleaning detergent was found on the window ledge and cloth downstairs by police, leading her to believe the maid had slipped and fell to her death.
She added her family was still asleep at the time of the incident and only learned of it when police knocked on their door.

Was hired less than a week ago
Yap said the maid was hired last Saturday and was the third maid to work for her family.
“The first maid left after completing her contract, while the second was sent away after becoming pregnant. I initially did not want to change maids, but I had no choice after the previous maid became pregnant.
I just hoped to find someone who could take care of my parents. I never expected something like this to happen.
“I feel so heartbroken. This is a human life, and she was also a good, diligent helper,” she added.

Based on preliminary investigations, foul play has been ruled out but investigations are ongoing.
According to Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM), maids are prohibited from cleaning windows unless specific safety conditions are met as it was regarded as a high-risk activity.
