From January 2026, officers at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will need to meet a new requirement if they want to climb the ranks — maintaining a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or below.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this move is part of a broader push to encourage better self-discipline and tackle obesity among civil servants.
Starting next year, MACC staff whose BMI exceeds 27 will no longer be considered for promotions. We’re giving them time until January 2026 to reach their ideal weight,” he told reporters during a retirement event in Kota Bharu on July 3.
He added that the policy isn’t meant to punish, but rather to promote a healthier lifestyle and improve overall fitness among MACC personnel.
Health checks to be done every month
Azam also announced that all MACC staff, especially at state offices and headquarters will soon undergo monthly health checks at government hospitals.
These check-ups are aimed at monitoring staff wellbeing and catching health issues early.
He stressed that it’s not just about career advancement, but also about staying physically fit to carry out demanding tasks with integrity and professionalism.
Discipline doesn’t just apply to investigations. It starts with how we take care of ourselves,” he said.
