Loan sharks, also known as ‘Ah Longs’ among Malaysians, are often feared by the public for their ruthless tactics in scaring their victims into repaying their debts and making their lives a living hell.
However, it also seems that loan sharks have grown increasingly bold in their intimidation methods too, as shown in a viral clip shared by an MP.
Loan shark films himself throwing petrol bomb at Kepong house
In a 10-second video shared by Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng today (Apr 14), it showed a man donned in a hood sticking a piece of paper on the front gate of the house, though it cannot be determined what was written on it.

After sticking the piece of paper, the man then sets a petrol bomb alight and tosses it over the front gate, where it immediately engulfs the front porch in flames.

The man is then seen running into a car waiting for him to finish the job before taking off, where he briefly admires the fiery ‘handiwork’ he left behind.

According to Lim, the man is believed to be “a local runner acting on behalf of a Singapore-based loan shark”.
He added he was made aware of the incident when the victim lodged a complaint over the petrol bomb that was thrown at her previously rented home in Kepong Baru.
Called for police to take action
Lim also called the man’s actions “a shocking act of criminal intimidation” as he had recorded himself committing arson before sending it to the victim.
“He warned her that if she fails to repay the debt, they will return every day to harass her. The victim has lodged a police report, and I urge the police to take swift and decisive action.

This is not merely a threat—it is a serious crime that endangers public safety and undermines the rule of law.
“Kuala Lumpur must not become a playground for gangsters or cross-border loan shark syndicates. The authorities must act without delay to bring those responsible to justice,” he wrote.
