A woman in Singapore was shocked to find an unwelcome ingredient in the form of a lizard inside a bowl of spinach soup she ordered at a food court.
When she informed the stall about the foreign object in her food, the staff allegedly said that it wasn’t a lizard but “anchovies”.
Found lizard inside soup
The customer surnamed Zheng (transliteration) told Shin Min Daily News that his daughter had gone to the Food Dynasty food court on the ground floor of the Lazada One building along Bras Basah Road on Friday (18 July) for lunch.

After ordering a spinach soup which cost S$6.90 (approx. RM22.80), Zheng’s daughter was halfway through her meal when she discovered a dead lizard with its body still intact inside the broth.
Was told lizard was “anchovies”
Unable to continue with her meal, Zheng’s daughter took the soup back to the stall and informed the staff about her discovery.
To her amazement, the staff told her that it wasn’t a lizard, but anchovies.
However, she insisted that the staff take a closer look and they immediately realised it was indeed an lizard and gave her a refund.

‘Could have fallen from the ceiling’
When a Shin Min reporter went to the stall, a staff named Nguyen Thi Luan confirmed the incident and said the lizard could have fallen from the ceiling and into the soup.
We don’t know when the lizard got into the soup as lizards do not usually appear at the stall. This is the first time I have seen one.
“I also personally apologised to the customer and bought her a cup of ice lemon tea aside from giving her a refund,” she said.
Nguyen added the stall had intended to give the customer their contact information so that she could contact them if she fell sick, but said it slipped their mind as they were too busy.
