On Monday (Jan 26), we reported about an elderly woman who was fined RM50 by the Segamat Municipal Council (MPS) for selling homegrown vegetables without a valid licence.
It didn’t take long for the woman’s plight to gain traction on social media, where it reached the ears of MCA Segamat Youth Chief Tay Kok Wea, who instructed his colleague to pay the fine on her behalf.
Secured licence for aunty
Tay also shared another piece of good news on his Facebook profile yesterday (Jan 29), where he revealed that he had handed over a trading licence to the old woman, which he paid for.
“From now on, she can continue selling vegetables with peace of mind. I have also borne all costs related to the licence on her behalf.

“Moving forward, I will also bring this matter to the upcoming council meeting and try to push for a token licence fee to ease her financial burden in the future,” he wrote.
Tay also thanked the public for showing their concern for the old woman and promised to work harder in addressing livelihood-related issues.
In the comments, netizens praised Tay for his swift action and being willing to help the elderly lady out.
