The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has issued a reminder to taxpayers to check their tax status and settle any outstanding payments before planning overseas trips during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

LHDN highlighted that under Section 104 and 75A of the Income Tax Act 1967, as well as Section 22 of the Real Property Gains Tax Act 1976, the board has the legal authority to prevent individuals or company directors from leaving the country if they have unresolved tax arrears.
How to check ur travel restrictions
Travel bans are implemented only as a last resort, typically after multiple notices and reminders have been sent and no payment has been made. The board urged the public to verify their tax status through the MyTax portal at https://mytax.hasil.gov.my.
Additionally, taxpayers can check if they’re subject to a travel ban via the Immigration Department’s portal at https://sspi.imi.gov.my/sspi/.
For those who are already restricted from travelling, LHDN encourages full payment or to contact the relevant HASiL office to arrange instalments.
This may enable them to proceed with their travel plans.
Lift your travel ban
Applications to lift the travel ban can also be done online through the e-Sekatan Perjalanan service on the MyTax portal, but must meet four conditions:
- The applicant is a Malaysian citizen
- Full payment has been made
- The travel restriction was issued under the Income Tax Act 1967
- The restriction is not related to a company director’s case
More information can be found at https://www.hasil.gov.my/individu/lain-lain/soalan-lazim-individu/, or by contacting the HASiL Contact Centre at 03-8911 1000, or by visiting the nearest LHDN office.
LHDN also took the opportunity to wish all Muslims a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, hoping the festive season brings blessings and wellbeing to all.
