Education is a gentle journey of perseverance, and the bond between teachers and students is a beautiful encounter.
This sentiment was brought to life by a Malaysian secondary school teacher, Mr. Hu Zaimi, who recently took his class of 21 students on a countryside retreat to celebrate their completion of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams.
Pen-throwing challenge
In a viral video on TikTok, Mr. Hu first attempted a playful “pen-throwing challenge” challenge, declaring that if he missed, he would take his entire class on a trip.
True to his word, he intentionally “failed” the challenge and fulfilled his promise by organizing the retreat for his Form 5 students who had just completed their crucial national exams.
This thoughtful getaway was carefully planned as a reward for his students’ hard work and dedication in preparing for the SPM.

During the retreat, the teacher and his students bonded through laughter and games, creating cherished memories together.
Netizens’ reaction
Netizens have praised his dedication and creative way of motivating students, calling it an inspiring example of how education can go beyond the classroom to touch lives.
“My teacher back then: ‘Oh, done with SPM? Okay, bye everyone’ HAHAHAHAH.”

“Wow, it’s nice to have classmates like these… all my classmates are toxic 💀.”

“May the teacher be blessed with more sustenance for treating all the students ✌🏻.”
