Delivery riders are often hailed as the “unsung heroes” for their relentless efforts in ensuring orders are being delivered to customers on time. But every now and then, they would receive odd and sometimes downright creepy requests.
A Lalamove driver in China had a shock of his life when he was asked to transport a dead body and was so spooked by it that he declined to take the job despite being offered more money to do so.
Delivery driver asked to transport corpse, declines extra payment
According to a report by Sing Tao Daily, a driver in Shandong, China, had received an order via the Lalamove app on July 31 and promptly responded to it.
However, when he arrived at the customer’s location, he was flabbergasted to discover that the “item” he was supposed to transport was actually a dead body.

Not wanting to have anything to do with it, the driver refused to transport the corpse. The customer then tried to convince him by offering him more money to take up the job but the driver didn’t budge.
Upon seeing the driver’s repeated refusal to move the dead body, the customer grew frustrated and threatened to lodge a complaint with Lalamove. An audio clip capturing the alleged conversation was also leaked online.
Lalamove responds
On Aug 3, a Lalamove representative reiterated that the company’s vehicles weren’t suitable for transporting corpses and urged customers to seek other transportation services.

However, the representative noted that the driver should have negotiated with the customer before declining the job, adding that he would only be absolved of his responsibilities when the customer cancels the order.
If the customer insists on filing a complaint, the company will investigate and the driver will receive a notification of the final decision. The driver can then appeal against it, which will be reviewed by the staff.
“After the review, if the driver is found not to be at fault, no action will be taken against the driver,” said the representative.
Netizens disagree
However, it seemed that Lalamove’s response didn’t sit well with netizens, where a majority of them sided with the driver.

Sing Tao Daily reported that one netizen wrote: ‘A murder could have taken place and the driver could have become an accomplice if he accepted the order.’
Another commented: ‘It doesn’t mean that the customer is in the right when they lodge a complaint.’
Meanwhile, a netizen wrote that the driver could have just contacted the police and bring the matter to an end.
