According to the data released by global air quality monitoring platform IQAir, Kuching, Sarawak, has been ranked as the city with the second-cleanest air in the world, just behind Copenhagen, Denmark.
IQAir updates its air quality rankings for major cities every hour, providing a real-time reflection of air quality changes.

At one point yesterday (Jan 12), Kuching boasts an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 9, earning it the second spot globally.
Kuala Lumpur also made significant progress, climbing to 3rd place with an AQI of 11.

Cities with the best and worst air quality
With an impressive perfect AQI score of 0, Copenhagen leads the chart by a significant margin.
In stark contrast, Cairo, the capital of Egypt, was recorded as the city with the worst air quality, with an alarming AQI of 493.

The rankings cover approximately 120 key cities worldwide, including some of the largest and most renowned urban areas.
Each city’s AQI is calculated using a weighted average of data from all its monitoring stations.
