Netizens were in uproar after an outrageous incident took place at a popular discount retail chain in South Korea, where a store employee was allegedly mistreated by a customer.
According to South China Morning Post, the incident took place at a Daiso outlet in Suncheon on Nov 21.
Told woman’s son not to run inside store
The news portal reported that on the day of the incident, a young boy was running around near the shop’s entrance and exit.
This then prompted one of the workers to remind the boy not to do so, where she told him gently: “Running around like this is really dangerous.”
However, this didn’t sit well with the boy’s mother, who proceeded to do several things which sparked widespread anger.
Verbally abuses & forces worker to kneel on the ground
For starters, the woman spewed a string of vulgarities at the worker and threatened to file a complaint with Daiso’s headquarters, leaving the latter visibly shaken as seen from CCTV footage.
To top things off, the worker bowed continuously and was allegedly forced to get down on both knees and rub her hands together in a pleading gesture.
When the woman finally decided to leave, the worker remained kneeling and then followed them to the door while apologising profusely. According to witnesses, the young boy saw everything unfold while standing nearby.
Daiso responds
After the clip went viral, netizens expressed anger and voiced their support for the worker, adding that she didn’t deserve the humiliation.
Following the backlash, Daiso Korea’s headquarters released a statement saying they would provide the worker legal help, paid leave and mental health counselling.
The company also said it’s reviewing CCTV footage of the incident and that police are looking into the matter.
