Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has been crowned the world’s No.1 Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) airport and Asia’s No.1 International Megahub in the 2025 Megahubs Index released by aviation data provider OAG.
How OAG ranked airports
OAG’s Megahubs Index measures international connectivity by analysing how many destinations can be reached via scheduled connections within six hours. It also identifies the dominant airline at each airport and its share of operations.

AirAsia strengthens KLIA’s dominance
AirAsia, which operates the majority of international flights at KLIA, was highlighted as the key factor behind its global lead. The airline’s extensive regional and long-haul network allowed KLIA to outperform other global hubs.

Asia’s top international megahub
KLIA beat major airports such as Singapore Changi and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to claim the title of Asia’s No.1 International Megahub.
In the global Top 10, KLIA was the highest-ranked Asian airport, while Incheon International Airport in South Korea came in at 6th place worldwide.
Connectivity surged 22%
This achievement cements Malaysia’s place on the global aviation map, with KLIA recognised as a major international hub and the world leader for low-cost connectivity.
In a Facebook post, KLIA said: “KLIA takes the lead! Connectivity surged 22%, and KLIA retains its title as the world’s No.1 low-cost carrier megahub. As the top-ranked Asian airport in the global Top 10, KLIA leads with unmatched reliability and reach.”
