The long-awaited KLIA Aerotrain project has missed yet another deadline, as Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed that the Automated People Mover System(Aerotrain) will not meet the expected completion date of 31 January 2025.
Despite assurances of “next-gen technology,” the project remains mired in delays, with no confirmed launch date in sight.

What happened?
The aerotrain faced significant scrutiny after a major breakdown on 1 March 2023, which left 114 passengers stranded mid-track due to mechanical and electronic failures.

Since then, progress on the replacement system has been slow, drawing criticism from the public and authorities alike.
Minister Loke expressed his dissatisfaction, noting that the contractor responsible has yet to finalize the timeline for project completion.

While new trains have reportedly arrived, they remain under extensive testing by the contractor, with no clear indication of when they will be operational.
It is ‘almost there’
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), however, reassured the public with a video update, stating that the aerotrain project is “almost there.”
The statement emphasized that every component is being thoroughly inspected and tested to ensure the system meets international standards.
“Safety is our top priority,” the video caption read, adding that rigorous processes are in place to guarantee reliability and efficiency.
