In a heartfelt message shared on @FAM_Malaysia’s X platform, Kim stated, “Today, I have a sad and sorry message to share with everyone. I have decided to step down as head coach of the Malaysian National Football Team due to my personal commitments. I apologise for any disappointment this may have caused.”

With Kim’s resignation, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is now tasked with finding a new head coach to prepare the team for the upcoming Merdeka Tournament in September, as reported by NST.

During the Asian Cup tournament in Doha, Malaysia delivered a memorable performance, securing a 3-3 draw against a South Korean team led by Son Heung Min.

Despite this impressive result, the team did not progress beyond the group stage in January.

Under Kim’s leadership, Harimau Malaya reached their highest world ranking in 18 years, peaking at No. 130. During his time as coach, Malaysia played 35 matches, winning 19, drawing 7, and losing 9.

The search for a new head coach begins immediately as FAM aims to build on the foundations laid by Kim Pan Gon.
