If there’s one thing men can always agree on, it’s their love for cars—especially those legendary, OG rides.Â
And in a recent viral video, our beloved former politician, Khairy Jamaluddin, sat down with the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of SAIC Motor Malaysia, discussing all things MG, particularly their new electric vehicles (EVs).
The video, shared by Keluar Sekejap Lagi on Instagram, instantly went viral.
Usually, the series is filmed inside a moving car, but this time, things took a slightly different turn.
The video kicks off with Khairy riding shotgun in an MG EV while the host drives, casually chatting about the sleek features of the electric ride.
Shortly after, Khairy reveals that they’re about to meet two big names—Emory Qi, the Managing Director, and Lee Wen Hsiang, the Chief Operating Officer of SAIC Motor Malaysia.
During the conversation, Khairy couldn’t help but share a little piece of his past. Back in his university days, he used to own a vintage MG.
While chatting with them, Khairy didn’t hide his excitement and was quick to share how much fun he and the host had while riding in the new MG4 EV.
As the interview progressed, Emory Qi delved into the history of the MG brand, explaining that it dates back to 1924 in England.
He described MG as a brand synonymous with youthful excitement, driving pleasure, and British elegance. Sounds like the perfect combination, right?
What’s Next for MG in Malaysia?
When asked about MG’s plans for Malaysia, Lee Wen Hsiang explained that in April 2024, they launched two models—the MG4 and the MG ZS, both starting with electric vehicles (EVs).
He mentioned that this move aligns with not only local government initiatives but also global trends.
But it’s not just about EVs. Lee shared that MG is looking to introduce internal combustion engine (ICE) models to cater to the Malaysian market’s needs.
“That’s the direction we’re heading,” he said confidently.
A Fun-Filled Test Drive
Throughout the video, they discussed everything from MG’s short- and long-term goals to the price range of MG cars.
They also touched on the highly anticipated SUV with an ICE engine.
Towards the end of the video, Khairy even got behind the wheel of the new SUV ICE, while the host sat in the front seat, and the MD and COO enjoyed the ride from the back.
You could tell they were all genuinely impressed by the car’s features as they cruised around, smiling and chatting.
It’s safe to say this video gave us a sneak peek into what MG has in store for Malaysia, and it looks like exciting times ahead for car enthusiasts.
