Kedah Firefighters Use 3-Tonne Firetruck To Transport 300kg Woman To Hospital

She was too big to fit into an ambulance.
Firefighters in Kedah had no choice but to deploy a three-tonne firetruck to transport a morbidly obese woman to the hospital as she was too big to fit into an ambulance.

According to a Facebook post by the Baling Fire and Rescue Department, the incident took place at 12.45am this morning at a house located at Kampung Kuala Merah, Kuala Ketil.

Sent 300kg woman to hospital with 3-tonne firetruck

Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil told China Press that the fire station received a call for help in sending a woman to the hospital after she experienced breathing difficulties and multiple health complications.

He added that due to the woman’s 300kg body weight and size, she couldn’t fit into an ambulance that was deployed to the scene. As such, firefighters had to deploy a three-tonne fire engine to complete the job.

“Firefighters first wrapped the woman in a blanket and worked together to lift her onto a stretcher before using the firetruck’s hydraulic system to safely transport her to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.

“Two medical personnel and a member from the woman’s family accompanied her, with the operation ending at 2.55am and the woman being handed over to the hospital’s emergency unit for further treatment,” he said.

Zulkhairi added this was the second case of firefighters having to help send extremely obese individuals to the hospital, with the first incident occurring back on Dec 10.
