Could we be seeing dashcams in every public transport vehicle soon?
That’s what the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is thinking about, as the agency considers making dashcams mandatory on all public vehicles in the future, according to Malay Mail.
Currently, only GPS is required
Right now, regulations only require public vehicles like buses and vans to be equipped with GPS tracking systems.
But JPJ assistant director (operations) Mohd Alifarihan Abdullah believes there’s room to improve.
He clarified that while the idea is being considered, dashcams aren’t mandatory just yet.

Prompted by viral cyclist-bus incident
The topic came up after a recent video went viral showing an MRT feeder bus driving uncomfortably close to a group of cyclists riding side by side on a narrow road.
The incident caused a brief but tense exchange between both parties.
Following the video, Rapid KL confirmed it is conducting an internal investigation.
One of the cyclists involved also brought up the issue during the forum, which was moderated by former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
