In just within the first six months of 2025 alone, millions of Singaporeans have flocked to Johor for food, shopping, and fuel, making them the top foreign visitors to visit the state.
Singaporeans top foreign visitor count to Johor
According to Johor State Tourism, Culture, and Heritage Committee chairman K. Raven Kumar, Johor recorded over 14.83 million foreign visitors from January to June this year, as reported by The Star.

Out of that figure, 11.56 million visitors were from Singapore alone, making up almost 78% of all foreign entries to the state. While it wasn’t revealed, it is understood that this figure included repeat visits
Aside from Singapore, Johor also welcomed tourists from Indonesia, China, India, the Philippines, South Korea, and several European countries.
Most entered via checkpoints
Most Singaporean visitors crossed into Johor using two main land checkpoints – Woodlands Causeway and Tuas Second Link.
A smaller number also entered the state via the Senai International Airport, ferry terminals, and rail services.
Many Singaporeans, however, still preferred short day trips for food, shopping, and cheaper petrol.

Aims to attract more tourists
Despite long queues and busy weekends, Singaporeans continue travelling to Johor, showing that cross-border ties in tourism and retail remain strong.
Raven Kumar described the numbers as a good sign for Johor’s tourism industry, especially now that the state is preparing for Visit Johor Year 2026 (VJY2026).
He said efforts are already in motion to boost the sector, including promoting small towns in 10 districts, many of which are close to waterfalls, beaches, and well-known local food spots.
The state is also working on improving infrastructure to handle the high number of travelers and ease congestion at checkpoints.
