In a cautionary tale of what happens when one gives in to peer pressure without thinking of the long-term consequences, a doctor in Johor has now found himself stuck in a financial rut.
It all started with him being influenced by his friends to pursue a life of luxury, which subsequently led him down a path of financial and emotional ruin.
Johor doctor borrows from 8 loan sharks for trips
Speaking at a press conference regarding the incident, Skudai state assemblyperson Marina Ibrahim said the 27-year-old doctor made a costly mistake by borrowing RM5,000 from a group of Ah Longs (loan sharks) for a holiday.

However, in a classic case of “robbing Peter to pay Paul”, the doctor soon found himself borrowing money from more loan sharks just to repay the earlier loan.
As a result, he found himself owing seven to eight different loan shark groups, where his monthly salary is no longer enough to cover the RM100,000 debt he had accumulated, reported China Press.
‘Think before you borrow’
Left with no recourse, the doctor eventually turned to Ibrahim and pleaded for assistance.

She reminded Malaysians to always stop and think of the consequences before borrowing money from either legal or illegal moneylenders due to peer pressure.
“Please think of your family before making such decisions. I’ve also personally witnessed cases where parents are forced to sell off property to settle their children’s debts,” she added.
Though it was a painful one, we hope the doctor has really learnt his lesson!
