A local man and his Indonesian girlfriend were sentenced to months in jail after they pleaded guilty to theft charges.
The duo were sentenced at the Magistrate’s Court in Batu Pahat, Johor yesterday (Mar 18) by Magistrate Arun Noval Dass, reported Harian Metro.
Stole phone & slippers at grocery store
According to the facts of the case, Muhammad Khairul Abd Rahman and his girlfriend, Mila Firdaus Sumito, allegedly stole a mobile phone and a pair of slippers at a grocery store in Parit Sempadan Laut, Parit Raja, at 9:20am on Jan 12.

They were later arrested in Belahan, Tampok, after the victim lodged a police report and were taken to a house in Parit Tengah, Rengit to point out where the stolen items were kept.
During questioning, Muhammad Khairul, who is jobless, said he committed the theft as he needed RM250 daily to pay for a rented car and house.
As for Mila Firdaus, she is also unemployed and followed her partner’s instructions in stealing the items.
Charges
Both Muhammad Khairul and Mila Firdaus were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which was read together with Section 34, for theft.

However, Mila Firdaus faced two more charges under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) for being in Malaysia without valid documents, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for testing positive for drugs.
Muhammad Khairul was jailed for four months, while Mila Firdaus was jailed eight months for theft and residing in Malaysia illegally.
She is also expected to be sentenced for the drug charge once the pathology report has been submitted to the prosecution.
