Exactly two weeks ago, passengers waiting for their flights at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 were treated to an unexpected shower after water flowed out from the rooftop due to massive leakage.
A local comedian later turned the incident into fodder for his stand-up comedy show and it has since triggered a wave of mixed reactions from netizens, with many either opposing or defending him.
‘M’sia airport also got waterfall like S’pore!’
In a close to one-and-a-half minute long clip shared by comedian Dr Jason Leong, it began with him telling Singaporeans to stop being “lan**” (Hokkien slang for ‘arrogant’) by boasting about the iconic waterfall within the Jewel Changi Airport.

He then went on to say that Singapore could no longer claim it was the only country to have a waterfall within its airport as Malaysian also had its own.
“At Terminal 1 KLIA…literally in the middle of the airport. There was a leak in the roof, it was raining, and we had a waterfall, okay?
“Don’t be lan**. We also can (have a waterfall), okay?” he said to a crowd that roared with laughter while applausing.

Jason also joked that while Singapore spent tons of money building the waterfall at Jewel Changi Airport, Malaysia had one completely for free.
Backlash & support
Jason’s comedy bit has since divided netizens, with some bristling with anger over his comments and telling him to give up his citizenship.

On the other hand, some came to Jason’s defense and said he was merely stating facts.

Another said that learning to make fun of themselves actually helps one to do self-reflection and have room for improvement.
