Japanese Visitor Obsessed With ‘Aesthetic’ Back Alleys Commonly Seen In M’sia

Back alleys we don’t even take photos of.
Every country has its own kind of charm.

For one Japanese tourist living in Malaysia, it was the country’s narrow alleyways that stole his heart.

Taking to Threads, he shared photos of small lanes tucked between houses and shop lots, saying he loved the design and vibe of these places.

I really like the design of Malaysia’s streets and alleys,” he wrote.

The pictures showed the narrow paths, some lined with moss and greenery, others framed by old shophouses.

Not as clean, but that’s the appeal

Some Malaysians in the comments joked that the alleys weren’t exactly the cleanest.

But for the tourist, that wasn’t the point.

He said the mix of symmetry, depth, and that slightly hazy tropical vibe made the alleys feel unique compared to what he was used to in Japan.

To his surprise, Malaysians managed to guess the exact spot in his photos—it was in USJ.

While some locals said Japanese streets were much cleaner, the tourist insisted that Malaysian alleys had their own character and charm.
