People always say ‘Do you think this is your grandfather’s road?’ as a way to shut people up, but this girl’s grandfather really has a road!
A Chinese-Malaysian woman, surnamed Chan, recently returned to her hometown in Kluang, Johor, to pay respects to her ancestors.
A road to commemorate her grandfather
As she stood on a road bearing her grandfather’s name, she was overwhelmed with emotion, recalling his selfless dedication to the community.
Sharing her experience on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, she posted a photo of herself next to the road sign, which reads “Tien Min Wah.”

She revealed that this road had been named after her grandfather in 1977 to commemorate his lifelong contributions and achievements.
My grandfather was not only a politician but also a leader within the Chinese community. He devoted his entire life to serving the people and was deeply respected,” she wrote.
20th anniversary of her grandfather’s passing
She added that it was rare for Chinese leaders at the time to receive such an honor.
Her grandfather was also awarded the Johor Royal Service Medal (BSI) and the Distinguished Service Medal (PIS) by the Sultan of Johor, further recognizing his unwavering dedication to the people.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of her grandfather’s passing. Following her visit to his grave, she made a special trip to the road named after him to quietly reflect on his legacy.
