With Ramadan and the upcoming festive holidays around the corner, Malaysia’s blood supply is expected to face a decline.
The National Blood Centre is now calling on individuals with blood types A and O to step forward and donate as soon as possible to ensure hospitals have enough supply for patients in need.
Stocks expected to drop during Ramadan
According to Kosmo!, the National Blood Centre stated that blood stocks for types A and O are projected to decrease throughout Ramadan and the festive period.
As many donors adjust their routines during the fasting month or travel for celebrations, blood donations typically see a drop.
Because of this, the centre is urgently appealing to what it calls “blood heroes” with types A and O to come forward.
Blood heroes with types A and O are urgently needed. Blood stocks are expected to decrease during Ramadan and the festive holidays,” the statement read.
The centre also encouraged eligible donors to continue donating blood throughout Ramadan to help ensure patients receive timely treatment.
Please come forward to donate blood throughout the month of Ramadan to ensure that patients’ needs are adequately met.”
Blood donations are crucial for accident victims, surgery patients, individuals undergoing cancer treatment, and many others who rely on a steady supply daily.

Members of the public can visit www.pdn.gov.my to find updated blood donation centres and mobile drives around the Klang Valley.
