Transport Minister Anthony Loke has denied reports claiming that Malaysians who fail to settle their traffic summonses will lose their eligibility for the BUDI 95 targeted petrol subsidy.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Loke stressed that the status of a driver’s licence and eligibility for BUDI 95 are two entirely separate and independently operated systems, and therefore are not automatically linked.

Need to have a valid MyKad and Valid driving license
He explained that under the current policy, there are only two requirements to apply for or continue receiving BUDI 95:
- The applicant must hold a valid MyKad to verify Malaysian citizenship.
- The applicant must possess a valid driving licence.
Loke noted that a “valid driving licence” refers to a licence that is still within its validity period, or has expired for no more than three years.
His statement came in response to reports suggesting that unpaid summonses could result in the removal of BUDI 95 eligibility, claims he said were misleading.
Loke also urged the public to rely on officially released information to avoid confusion or misinformation surrounding government assistance programmes.
