A 30-year-old social media influencer has admitted to conspiring with a friend to shoplift beauty products worth more than RM1,800 (S$600) from a Japanese retail chain along Orchard Road.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the accused, Genie Yamaguchi, who has 14,800 followers on Instagram, pleaded guilty on Tuesday (Aug 26) to one count of theft.
According to her social media profile, Yamaguchi is a gamer and entrepreneur who runs a preserved flower business and beauty clinic.

Details
Court documents revealed that on Aug 25, 2023, between 2.30am and 3am, Yamaguchi and her friend Li Xuekai, entered Don Don Donki at Orchard Central.
The pair stole 27 items including makeup sponges, lipsticks and serums, which they placed into a shopping cart. They then left the store without making any payment.
A staff member who was on duty later noticed the pair and alerted the manager, who reviewed CCTV footage and discovered the theft before lodging a police report.
Police arrested Yamaguchi the following month. By then, only nine stolen items had been returned. Both women later expressed willingness to compensate for the missing items.
Court proceedings
The prosecution noted that Yamaguchi had no prior criminal record and requested that she be assessed for a Day Reporting Order—a community-based sentencing option in Singapore.

Her defence lawyer agreed, adding that she had already made restitution to Don Don Donki on Aug 22.
The judge has ordered a report to be prepared, and sentencing has been adjourned to Sept 23.
