Indonesian Woman Hopes Her Country Follows Anwar’s Leadership Even As M’sians Call For His Resignation

“This isn’t about comparing — it’s about learning”
While some Malaysians are rallying against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim with the “Turun Anwar” protest, a different sentiment is brewing across the border.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @Marchfoward, an Indonesian woman openly praised Anwar’s leadership, saying that Indonesia would be a much better country if it were governed the way Malaysia is today.

She expressed admiration for how the country seems to be progressing economically and socially.

She pointed out that Malaysians enjoy lower fuel prices, better minimum wage policies, no recent toll hikes, and even receive a 30 percent discount on essential goods, all of which she believes are the result of competent leadership.

Credits Anwar for stabilising the economy

The woman didn’t stop there. She credited Prime Minister Anwar for successfully lowering inflation, increasing employment opportunities, and reducing the national unemployment rate.

To her, these achievements reflect a government that knows how to manage a country while keeping the people’s needs in mind.

Anticipating that her comments might stir nationalistic backlash, she clarified that her intention wasn’t to compare the two countries negatively.

Instead, she urged Indonesians to learn from their neighbours and adopt strategies that work.

This isn’t to compare just for the sake of it. But to learn from what’s good and correct what’s wrong. Hopefully, Indonesia can thrive like our successful neighbours — like Malaysia.”

A stark contrast to what’s happening in Malaysia

The timing of the video has caught attention, especially as it comes amidst protests in Malaysia calling for Anwar to step down.

While many Malaysians are questioning his leadership, the video offers a rare moment of cross-border recognition with someone from Indonesia expressing admiration for Anwar’s approach and hoping her country might one day follow suit.
