A fatal accident occurred at the construction site of the new Penang Hospital after a concrete mixer lorry is believed to have lost control while reversing and fell into a foundation pit.
The male driver, an Indonesian national, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Incident happened late morning
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 11am.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 11.29am and arrived at the site six minutes later.
Rescue personnel were seen working to access the lorry, which had toppled into the deep excavation area within the construction site.
Driver confirmed dead at the scene
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the driver did not survive the incident.
