Indonesia has been recognised as one of the safest countries in the world, according to the Global Safety Report 2025 by Gallup.
The report placed Indonesia 19th globally in the Law and Order Index, while the country also ranked 25th worldwide for the percentage of people who feel safe walking alone at night, reported ANTARA.
Public trust seen as key factor
Indonesia’s National Police Chief, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, described the achievement as a reflection of strong public trust in the country’s security forces.
He made the remarks during an end-of-year briefing at the Indonesian National Police headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Gallup report is based on feedback from around 145,000 adults across 144 countries and territories surveyed in 2024.
Outperforming Japan and the US
Indonesia recorded a score of 89 on the Law and Order Index, placing it ahead of countries such as Japan and the United States, which scored 86 and 84 respectively.
According to the findings, 83 per cent of respondents in Indonesia said they felt safe walking alone at night. This placed the country 25th globally, while Singapore topped the list with 98 per cent.
These figures show that Indonesia enjoys a strong level of security and public order that is directly felt by the community,” Listyo said.
Police among most trusted institutions
Citing domestic data, Listyo added that a survey released in November 2025 by Kompas Research and Development ranked the Indonesian National Police among the top three institutions with the highest public trust.
The police force also ranked first among law enforcement institutions, recording an approval rating of 78.2 per cent.
This achievement gives motivation to our institution and personnel to continue serving the public in a more professional and accountable manner,” he said.
Call for continued reform
Despite the positive results, Listyo cautioned police personnel against complacency, stressing the need for continuous improvement and evaluation to maintain institutional reforms.
High public trust is a valuable asset for us to continue protecting and serving the people,” he added.
