Stepping into a marriage means that two people come together to share their burdens as they move forward in life. However, one woman found herself shouldering almost the entire weight of her family alone after 10 years.
According to mStar, the emotional burden began when her husband, who used to hold a stable job and contribute significantly to the household, decided to quit his job two years ago.
Earning RM70 to RM200 daily
Since then, he has turned to running a small roadside food business. However, his earnings are inconsistent, with daily income fluctuating between RM70 and RM200 — barely enough to cover his operating costs, let alone contribute to the family’s rising living expenses.
He asked for two years to rebuild his finances. I work for myself, and I’m exhausted. I’m tired because I have to work more and carry everything. My savings are gone because I invested in him,” she wrote in a heartfelt post.
Though she acknowledged that her husband was helpful around the house, she also expressed frustration over his reluctance to take her advice seriously.
He’s a good husband and helps with the housework, but he has some ego and refuses to listen to me. He’d rather listen to outsiders than hear me out.”
Shouldering RM5000 monthly
Before her husband left his job, their financial responsibilities were more balanced.
Back then, his salary covered the kids’ school fees, commitments, and groceries. I only needed to handle about RM3,000 worth of bills. Now it’s RM5,000 monthly. Is it wrong if I feel burdened? Just this week alone, I feel so overwhelmed. Only Allah knows how tired I am.”
While her husband isn’t neglecting his duties at home, the financial stress has clearly taken a toll.
I often find myself staring blankly. My husband asked why, and I said nothing. Truth is, I have no savings this month. In fact, I’m in the negative after settling all the payments. And he just kept quiet.”
