Back in December of last year, the whole nation was shaken following the murder of Zayn Rayyan, a 6-year-old autistic boy who was found dead near a river after going missing for days from his home at Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai.
Now, the plot has further thickened following the arrest of the boy’s parents, who were nabbed by police last Friday (May 31) and remanded for seven days starting on June 1 in order to aid investigations under Section 302 for murder.
I’ve been wronged, says Zayn’s father
Following the expiration of their remand order, Zayn’s parents, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, were brought to the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court today, reported NST.
Upon entering the court complex, Zaim, the father of Zayn Rayyan who was dressed in the purple detainee garb and in handcuffs, became emotional and tearfully declared his innocence.
I am being wronged! This is all slander!”
As for Zaim’s wife, she was found to have said nothing throughout but received support from a group comprised of family members, with one telling her “not to be a scapegoat” and “to be strong”.
Meanwhile, a small group of 20 people gathered outside the court complex to offer support to Zayn’s parents while holding banners which read “Justice for Zayn” and “Justice for Zaim and Isma”, reported Berita Harian.
Magistrate Ainaa Muhamad Kamal later approved the police’s request to extend Zaim and Isma’s remand by another six days.
