What was supposed to be a routine hair bleaching session turned into a disaster after a single mistake led to severe hair loss and bald patches.
Famed South Korean DJ, DJ Soda took to social media to recount the unfortunate event and how it led to her physically and psychologically scarred.
Meant to be a surprise
In an Instagram post, DJ Soda explained that she had her hair bleached at her usual salon, where it was thick, healthy, and fully restored after a three-year break.
Unfortunately, the salon unintentionally left the bleach on her hair for too long, causing it to, in her own words, “melt from the roots”.
As a result of the mishap, DJ Soda had little choice but to shave the entire back and sides of her head to salvage the situation.
‘Hard for me to look in the mirror’
Following the hairy disaster, DJ Soda said she was left to deal with the emotional toll the incident brought as she often had to appear in public regularly.
My hair kept falling out in big handfuls every day. I was so upset that I couldn’t sleep for 2 weeks and cried almost every day. It’s really hard for me to look in the mirror. When I see videos fans took of me, I feel even more heartbroken.”
To make matters worse, her hair continues to fall out, with most of it now only about 3mm long.
DJ Soda revealed that she can’t get hair extensions and will need over two years for her hair to grow back fully. For now, she’s been covering the bald patches with what little hair she has left, leaving her feeling “lost and very sad” every day.
DJ Soda also warned fans to practice caution when it comes to bleaching their hair, saying it’s reliant on the hairstylist’s skill.
“Make sure to do your research and get it done by a bleaching specialist!” she added.
Outpouring support from fans
DJ Soda’s post has since received numerous supportive comments from her fans, who expressed their sympathy and said they hoped to see her recover soon.
