Illegal Taxi Driver Charges RM180 For Trip From Sunway To KLIA, Gets Caught By JPJ

Tried to 'sapu' passengers, but got 'sapu'-ed by JPJ instead.
A man from India tried his luck to fleece a group of unsuspecting passengers by charging them an exorbitant fee through his illegal taxi service, also known as ‘prebet sapu’.

Unfortunately, Lady Luck wasn’t on his side that day and he was eventually busted by officers from the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Charged passengers RM180 for trip

According to a report by NST, the illegal taxi driver was an Indian national who was fetching passengers from a hotel in Bandar Sunway to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

When intercepted by JPJ officers, the man, who was in his 30s, claimed that it was his first day on the job and that he was just trying to help his company.

Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said checks later revealed that the man only possessed a probationary (P) driving licence.

A receipt also showed that he had charged the passengers RM180 for the trip. The Toyota Innova, which was registered under a private company, was later seized by JPJ.

Azrin said such offenses are taken seriously by JPJ, adding that more monitoring and enforcement operations will be carried out.

“JPJ Selangor consistently pays close attention to public complaints and conducts ongoing monitoring to ensure all vehicles comply with traffic rules and road safety regulations,” he added.

Should one have any complaints related to traffic offenses, they may file a complaint via aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or the e-aduan application, along with full details of the complainant and the offence.
