Recently, netizen @paedrazip took to social media to rant about his bad experience at IKEA. According to the post, the credit card system had crashed, and he was forced to pay with cash instead. When he realised that he didn’t have enough on hand, the cashier allegedly scolded him angrily:
“You don’t even have RM100 in your wallet?!”
Before he could respond, his companions came to the rescue and paid the bill.
He later explained why he didn’t carry much cash with him was because cashless payment had been widely implemented and encouraged by the government amidst the pandemic.

He added that even if the credit card payment system was down, e-wallets should be made as an alternative but claimed there were none.
“The furniture designs are so modern, but the payment system is still old-fashioned.”
He reiterated that the chief reason for his rant was the cashier’s attitude.
“She could have apologised appropriately, inform us that the payment system was down, and then direct us to a nearby ATM to withdraw cash.”
At the end of the post, @paedrazip posed the question of whether it was wrong to not bring more cash with him and said that he was ready to carry RM1000 if necessary.
The post has since garnered 10k reactions, 2.3k comments and 1.2k shares.

A netizen pointed out that the premise should have displayed a “Cash Payment Only” sign to avoid incidents like this.

However, another pointed out that the sign was displayed in the photo.

Another netizen, who previously worked in the retail line, thought it was unfair to single the cashier out for her rudeness when there were multiple instances of customers doing the same.

One netizen, who attempted to inject some humour into the discussion, posted a picture of a cat posing as a cashier with the following words: “I would like to emphasise that not every cashier is impolite, I am good and handsome. Thank you and please visit my shop soon.”

What do you think? Was it the cashier or customer who was in the wrong?
