Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified that he was not invited to attend the “Himpunan Turun Anwar” rally, which took place today in the city centre.
According to Astro Awani, when asked by reporters whether he would be making an appearance at the gathering, Anwar responded curtly, “I wasn’t invited.”
He made the remark after attending the 2025 Prime Minister’s Cup Debate Finals on Saturday.
Despite being the focus of the rally, Anwar had earlier directed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to fully cooperate with organisers to ensure the event proceeded in a peaceful and orderly manner, free from provocation.
This directive, he said, reflects the MADANI government’s dedication to democratic values and the Federal Constitution, including the right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, even for those who oppose the current administration.
The rally, dubbed “Himpunan Turun Anwar,” was organised by opposition groups calling for Anwar’s resignation. Crowds began gathering earlier today at Dataran Sogo, drawing attention from both local authorities and the public.
At the time of writing, the rally has remained peaceful, with police monitoring the situation closely.
