She explained that she had chosen to leave home due to personal family issues.
The case of a 19-year-old Malaysian girl who was believed to be missing has taken a new turn, as she has since contacted authorities to clarify that she left home voluntarily and was never actually missing.

According to Sin Chew, Yap Xiao Tong reached out to the investigating officer after seeing her missing person notice circulated widely on social media and in newspapers.

Chosen to leave home

She reassured the authorities that she is safe and explained that she had chosen to leave home due to personal family issues.

It is understood that Yap also changed her phone number after leaving, which made it difficult for her family to reach her and eventually led them to lodge a missing person report.

Sources revealed that Yap is still residing within the Klang Valley area but has expressed a desire to live independently for the time being and has no immediate plans to return home.

Unable to contact her

The Sentul police had earlier issued a missing person alert, stating that Yap was last seen leaving her home at Jalan Jambu Berasa in Jinjang Selatan, Kuala Lumpur, around 1pm on April 16.

Her family filed a police report on Tuesday (April 22) after being unable to contact her for several days.

Police have since confirmed that Yap is safe and that there is no foul play involved in the case.
