A Malaysian woman’s decade-long love story came to an abrupt and painful end after she discovered her fiancé was having an affair, months before their wedding.
The anonymous confession was posted to local Facebook page XUAN, where she detailed how what seemed like a destined happy ending turned into heartbreak.
From high school sweethearts to long-distance lovers
According to her post, she first met her ex when they were students. He was the “class clown” and the teacher’s favourite, known for his easy-going personality and good temper.
I only wanted to focus on my studies, but he kept pursuing me. Eventually, I was touched and we got together,” she wrote.
When they entered university, the couple endured a four-year long-distance relationship, he studied overseas, while she remained at a local university.
She rejected several potential suitors during that time and said he would call her almost every week.
“I thought if we could survive a long-distance relationship, we could make it to the end.”
Seeing a different side…not the good kind
After graduation, they moved in together in the same city and started building a life.
But over time, she realised his “good temper” was just a façade for others. With her, he often lost his temper, gave her the cold shoulder, and would even tell her to get out of their rented apartment whenever he was unhappy.
Still, she forgave him each time, believing he loved her.
When he proposed, she thought he had matured and wanted to settle down. Excited, she began preparing for the wedding.
‘I paid for everything’
But soon, he claimed weddings were expensive and asked her to temporarily cover all expenses from rent, loans, food, and daily necessities.
I foolishly believed he was doing it for the sake of marrying me,” she said.
The financial strain became so great she could no longer buy herself clothes, yet he accused her of being bad with money and said someone like her was “not fit to marry.”
Eventually, he kicked her out and threw her belongings outside. She spent that night sitting at the doorway, feeling more wronged than she ever had in her life.
The truth comes out
Days later, she learned from his colleague that he had been secretly dating a co-worker, even before he proposed.
I was just a foolish ATM paying his car loan and buying daily necessities, a pathetic ‘placeholder girlfriend’,” she wrote.
The apartment they once shared is now occupied by the “official” girlfriend.
The incident happened last month, but she said she only recently calmed down enough to write about it.
“I can’t focus on work and have no one to confide in. Is the end of a long-term relationship not stability, but betrayal?” she asked.
Her post ended on a sombre note, questioning the meaning of life after losing the person she thought would be her lifelong partner.
