His mother, Ms Wong (transliteration), told China Press at a funeral home in Bukit Cina, Melaka, that her son was accused of riding in the wrong direction by the other rider involved.

I’m begging anyone who was there to come forward. My son was not riding against traffic. Please help us get justice.”

She added that the crash site was only about 50 metres from a traffic light, so it’s likely that other cars passed through and may have captured the incident on their dashcams.

Please check your dashcam footage. Any short clip might help show the truth,” she said, urging witnesses to contact her at 017-9226213.

Officer confirms video proves no wrong-way riding

According to Wong, the investigating officer later informed the family that existing video evidence had confirmed Tan Kai Lun was not riding in the wrong direction.

However, she is still hoping that more footage from the public can help fully reconstruct the incident and stop the spread of false claims.

On the night of the crash, Wong said she and her son had crossed over from Singapore.

While she drove home to Tampoi, her son rode his motorcycle separately.

Usually, he would arrive home before her — but that night, he never did.

I tried calling him, but he didn’t pick up. I started to worry. Before I could go look for him, his father, who was in Melaka, saw news of the accident online,” she said.

When she rushed to the hospital, she found her son unconscious.

He never woke up. He didn’t even know what happened to him.”

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed that both riders were taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment, but Tan died due to severe head injuries.

The other rider, who works as a cleaner in Singapore, survived.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.

Family questions delay in test results

Wong also expressed frustration with the police handling of the other rider involved.

She claimed that although the man only had minor injuries, he appeared confused at the scene.

“He looked unstable. I insisted that police conduct a urine and blood test.”

However, she was shocked when officers told her the urine test would take three weeks, which she found unacceptable.

She also posted on a Facebook group, saying:

Right now, we just want the truth. We don’t want to falsely accuse anyone, but we also don’t want our child to die without a clear reason.
He was my only son. Please, we ask everyone to help us.”

Witnesses who may have passed Sultan Ismail Road near R&F Princess Cove around 10 pm on Dec 8 are urged to check their dashcams and contact the family at 017-9226213.
