For many teachers, seeing their students succeed is one of the greatest joys in life.
They pour their heart, time, and effort into lessons, hoping that every bit of knowledge they share will help shape a better future for the young minds before them.
But not every story ends on a high note.
Recently, a teacher’s heartfelt post on Threads went viral after she shared the painful reality of marking her students’ Design and Technology (RBT) exam papers where some scored a big, fat zero.
“Nearly a year of learning… and this is the result”

In her post, the teacher who goes by @aimanhafizaahh expressed deep disappointment when she discovered that several students not only failed to answer correctly but left entire sections blank.
“A teacher’s disappointment. Nearly a year of learning, and this is the result. I don’t know where it went wrong. I feel like I taught class as usual, gave practice work, pushed them at the end. This is what we get. Maybe our teaching effort still wasn’t enough,” she wrote.
She explained that while the exam questions were subjective, they varied in difficulty and she had even given hints, teaching materials (BBM), and notes to help students prepare.
Still, some answer sheets looked as though the students had never studied the subject at all.
“It’s not about blaming parents or students…”

The teacher made it clear that her frustration wasn’t aimed at everyone.
There are many parents who are great, they guide and monitor their kids’ work,” she wrote.
But there are also those who aren’t, from all kinds of backgrounds. Some are busy working 24/7. But as long as we have the strength as parents, we try our best.”
What truly upset her, she said, were the students who simply didn’t care — those who ignored repeated advice, submitted sloppy homework, or treated school like playtime.
Repeated advice doesn’t work, homework is done half-heartedly, and some just come to school to play,” she lamented.
Still, she shared examples of students who did try their best, showing that there are always bright sparks among the crowd.
Netizens share support and frustration
The post struck a chord with many, especially fellow teachers who resonated deeply with her experience. The comments section was filled with empathy and realism — reflecting the challenges of today’s education system.
“Not the teacher’s fault. Kids these days are quite lost — not all, but many. They go to school without purpose.”
“Move on, teacher. I’ve been teaching for 20 years, from primary to adult classes. You’ll meet all kinds of students.”
“They learn, they know, but don’t understand how to apply it. You’ve given your full effort, but students come in all types.”
“Don’t give up, teacher. Keep going. Sometimes these students are struggling with issues we don’t see.”
“If it were my kid, I’d cane him! Think school is a joke?”
