With the long weekend commemorating His Majesty’s birthday, the movie soared to RM4.2 million in box-office after just 5 days of screening in cinemas nationwide here.
“How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” is now in the position to challenge for the throne of the all-time highest grossing Thai film in Malaysia which is held by Bad Genius in 2017 with the gross box-office of RM8 million.
“How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” has garnered momentous attention even before its release here, with overwhelmed positive reactions and word of mouth sparked off from the audiences of its Malaysian premiere.
Emotional moments of the audiences had gone viral, with an audience reaction video uploaded by GSC reaching over 14.2 million views on TikTok.
“How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” tells the story of a young man, M, who quits his job to take care of his grandmother who is battling cancer.
However, his willingness to step up as a dutiful grandson is driven not only by familial love but also by the prospect of a substantial inheritance from his grandmother.
He exhausts all efforts to gain his grandmother’s attention and affection.
Yet, during the final moments he spends with his grandmother, he discovers and learns great life lessons that transcend mere inheritance.
Portraying the character M is renowned Thai male singer and actor, Billkin.
Born in Bangkok, with ancestry from Shantou, Guangdong, he also has a Chinese name, Ma Qunyao.
Billkin revealed that he shed off ten kilograms before filming to better embody the character’s “ne’er-do-well” essence.
Much hyped since its release in other territories, the film has gained significant box office success in both Thailand and Indonesia.
It has since sparked fans excitement, drawing crowd to its filming site like Bangkok’s Talat Phlu Market.
This location holds emotional weight in the film, serving as the backdrop for heartfelt scenes between M and his grandmother, who sells porridge there.
