‘How Did No One Notice?’ — M’sian Student Expresses Shock After Stopping Molestation At Taipei Main Station

The suspect was a wanted fugitive.
A shocking sexual assault took place in broad daylight inside the main hall of Taipei Main Station, where a wanted Taiwanese man surnamed Chiu allegedly sexually assaulted an intoxicated Hong Kong woman near the East 1 entrance wall.

The molestation allegedly lasted for about 10 minutes before it was stopped.

According to ETtoday, the disturbing incident occurred on October 9 at around 4 pm during the busy Double Tenth holiday travel rush.

M’sian student reported the incident

A Malaysian student, who was waiting for friends on the second floor before heading to Yilan, said he noticed something was off when he saw the man dragging a woman toward the wall.

It was unbelievable. There were many people around — tourists and even some homeless individuals — but no one seemed to notice,” he told ETtoday.

He quickly recorded the scene as evidence and, with the help of a Taiwanese friend, called 110 to alert authorities.

The two later went to the Railway Police Bureau’s Taipei branch to file a formal report.

Suspect a wanted fugitive

Police later arrested Chiu, who was already wanted for previous crimes.

In 2024, he had stolen a small truck and later an electric scooter in Taoyuan, receiving a six-month prison sentence. He failed to pay the fine or report to authorities, leading to a warrant for his arrest.

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office confirmed on Wednesday that Chiu has now been formally charged with “sexual intercourse by exploiting opportunity” and detained for investigation under the women and children protection unit.

In response to public concern, the Railway Police Bureau announced it has increased patrol frequency from twice every two hours to at least three times, maintaining 24-hour surveillance throughout the station.

Authorities also urged the public to report any suspicious behavior immediately, stressing that public vigilance is key to preventing such crimes from happening again.
