A shop owner in Terengganu was recently praised for his honesty after he returned a handful of cash he found scattered across the ground.
The heartwarming incident took place on May 5 at 75-year-old Heng Fock Suan’s shop located on Jalan Syed Hussin at around 10.56am, reported Sinar Harian.
Found money lying on the ground
Speaking to the Malay daily, Heng said he stepped out of his shop to throw away rubbish when he stumbled upon a handful of Ringgit notes scattered all across the floor.
“There were RM50, RM10, and RM1 notes. My worker and I picked them up and counted it, where it totalled to RM980.

“That same day, I waited to see if anyone would come and ask about the lost money, but no one showed up. At that point, I had decided to hand the money over to the police if I was unable to locate the owner,” he said.
Heng said that since no one came to claim the money, he asked his son to check the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to identify the owner, who turned out to be a food stall operator at the bus station.

Thanks to his frequent interactions with the owner named Wan Shahrul Sulaiman, Heng was able to contact him and return the cash to him.
Meanwhile, Wan Shahrul said the cash had fallen out from his pocket as he was walking to his car.

When I got to the car, I realized the money in my pocket was gone. I searched around the shop and inside the car, but couldn’t find it.
“At that point, I had already accepted that the money was lost and I wouldn’t be able to get it back,” he recounted.
Wan Shahrul added it wasn’t until two to three days later when Heng came to his stall and asked if he had lost any money that he was able to recover the cash.
“We live in a multiracial society where unity is important. Honesty like this knows no race. I am truly grateful and happy,” he said.
