Now, it seems that the ranking has caught the attention and raised eyebrows, most notably the Home Ministry, who are vehemently refuting the study.

Home Ministry to look into Forbes’ study

Speaking at a press conference after attending the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly here yesterday (Jul 23), its minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Forbes Advisor’s study was at odds with the Global Peace Index 2024 (GPI), where it found Malaysia to be the world’s 10th most peaceful country.

The Global Peace Index metrics are clear. I have not read the Forbes Advisor metrics. I am not saying that I deny it, but I have not read it. I will review the metrics used by the GPI.

“For example, there are indicators such as violent demonstrations resulting in the loss of life and the perception of crime in the country. There are dozens of metrics, including per capita provisions for safety, which are very comprehensive,” he said as quoted by NST.

Saifuddin added that regardless of Forbes Advisor’s findings, the Home Ministry and police will continue to safeguard peace and order within the country, saying that it was a “primary responsibility”.

  3. Jakarta, Indonesia (11th globally)
  4. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (20th globally)
  5. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (29th globally)
